Hi,

Can anyone give me some ideas of the best fish to start a tank with?

I have a 30 gall tank which is set up with gravel substrate, rocks, bogwood and a few plastic plants. I'm looking for something hardy that will help the tank mature but that will still fit in with the community when complete.

Thanks.

Zebra danio (brachydanio reio)
Leopard danio (brachydanio frankei)
White cloud mountain minnows (Tanichthys albonubes)

but i'd go with Danios check out my website

:D

min 5. They like to show off to each other and you get better colours
when in groups of this size or more. :D

some people may not agree with this but ive found that black neon tetras are quite hardy as they survived cycling my tank :fun:

How about 3 cherry barbs (1male, 2 female)
or herlequin rasbora's

p.s just found out im going diving with sharks as part of my 21st birthday

I agree with tetras_rock as my black tetras have lived quite a long time. Danios are nice, so are mollies and platties. Try some corydoras or dwarf frogs for bottom feeders or a snail

Thanks for all the help people

My tank is now up and running with 5 Leopard danios and hopefully it won't be too long before thay have lots of fishy friends B)
