Totally new to fish tanks and bought one spur of the moment, although thankfullly I didn't buy any fish and I have to say, the further I got into my research the harder it seems (I've got a 10 week old puppy and that honestly seems easier :fun: ) Anyway I've decided to go for a planted tank, I like the whole nature style aquariums, which I know is called an aquascape.

Anyway enough rambling, here are some photos of my aquascape. I'll keep you posted!

Yours in newbies,

Axy!

that looks great for a first scape  wish mine looked that good when i started

Thank you guys! Took all my imagination haha. If you go back through the album I've got photos of the plants but, I got them my LFS and I don't know their name :/. Although I think i've got some christmas moss and some dwarf hair grass as 'foreground' plants and maybe some rotunda. I'm just guessing from pictures I've seen, but maybe you'd be able to identify them better than me? I'll put some more photos up if you want?

Any suggestions of small schooling fish would be appreciated (I want to try and make the tank look as big as possible)

Cheers,
Axy!

Edit: Background plants: Pogostemon erectus
Foreground plants: Eleocharis sp. 'mini', Marsilea hirsuta and Vesicularia dubyana 'Christmas' (I think)

Thank you but I have used some inspiration from youtube! TheGreenMachine guy is amazing!

looks like hair grass behind the wood micro chain sword in front of it and iv got no clue on the moss lots look the same :good:

Looks great for an experienced aquascaper let alone a first try. :good: A small school of tetras would look good in there.

Ah cheers, im pretty sure the moss is christmas. Along as the plants take I'm not too fussed :D

Ah cheers, I've used inspiration from YouTube so I really take the credit haha. Ah yeah, there so many varieties as well. I really like the rummy nose although I've heard they're a bit sensitive :(

Well you gotta get ideas from somewhere. Lol. Harlequin rasbora are another lovely little shoaling fish. You could always go for good old neon tetras if you need some hardy fish to start with.

A week and a half on into my first tank and aquascape. Starting to see some proper growth now. I've taken some closer photos and wondered if some people could tell me the name of the plants as I'm a bit clueless

I've attached the christmas moss to the wood now as I didn't know you needed mesh for it to carpet.. annoyingly the wood is still floating hence the rock.

Any suggestions of alternative layouts would be nice...
