i also got another fish for free but not sure what it is it looks like a tetra or danio sort of thing but very small.

There defiantly Apistogramma agassizii fire red. They both look male to me because of the purple down there backs, can you get a better pic of the smaller one because it looks like it has a rounded tail which could mean its females. The bigger one looks a bigger rough so lots of food to build him back up

From the pics can't tell anything unusual about the eyes. Just not high resolution enough.

She has got a bit of an odd eye..

I also wonder if they are indeed Agassizi. They appear to be, but they have very long and slender bodies, whereas the agassizi are usually relatively bulky.

Not compared to apisto like apistogramma borellii and simmilar, Agassizii are quite a long thin type plus they look a little under fed. There defiantly Apistogramma agassizii fire red ive kept them a few times. The females seem to be quite hard to keep for longer than 6 months though i know quite a few people have had problems with the females.

What's the problem with the females then, weak breeding?
