Very cool it's not as common to get firemouth to spawn then other ca cichlids . They look great good job.

They are a pleasure to watch when they begin to breed just a pain to clean

Great pics, my Rotkeils have decided to spawn again today after a few weeks of rest since they were moved tank. Typical their tank is due its wc tonight

Thanks. I read on the internet they only spawn 3-5 times just hope the male isnt been too forceful. Your rotkeils are beautys if i had a spare and big enough tank they would be first on my list.

I have the Elliotti, my origional pair spawned about 3 times for me then for some unknown reason I lost the male  I still have 5 of the fry that have paired they have spawned but raised no fry yet.

Buy a bigger tank, I have loads of babies off my Rotkeils

Aww thats a shame! I wish i could but i have no space as i live in an apartment and money issues with not been a fully qualified electrician yet 1 more year left then maybe buy a 3 bedroom house.... well 2 bedroom 1 fishroom :hyper:

Just an update had about 6-7 fuzzy eggs but the female has been very good wafting the eggs picking off the bad ones, Starting to wiggle now. Spotted raphael keeps getting pushed across the tank when it comes near dont think hes after the eggs only does this at feeding time, very funny to watch just swims around them like an army tank.

Thats great, I came down this morning to about 50 white eggs, my male severum is a bit slap dash with his aim I think

Haha male cichlids so pushy demanding eggs to be laid and they cant even do the job right. Thats a shame are you still over run from the last lot? The firemouths are still young and very inexperienced they both leave the eggs exposed when feeding. Will this change with experience?

It is rather, this is a huge batch of eggs, the biggest yet and she hasnt spawned for about 6 weeks since I moved them into this new tank, so would be good strong healthy fry, Oh well, cant be helped I just dont have the room to raise them.

Isnt there any local stores near you take them?

The firemouths will get better with practice btw :good:

I have tried a few, those stores that I would be happy for the fry to go to wont take fish off the public. I have found a shop that will buy them, but I wouldnt like to see them go there, its not great  Its a catch 22

Thats a shame! there is a good one near me who take most fish in. I always see full grown angels, clown loach, striped rahael etc doesnt take long for them to go either. I would have thought stores would have snapped up those sevs nothing to lose apart from a tank, get a photo and spec of a fully grown one on the tank to show their potential they would soon sell!

All eggs have gone but think they have just been moved to the base of a eleocharis which i think will be a good place for them. Parents guarding around plant.
