Well I went out and bought a betta about a week ago. I bought it cause I had a 1 gallon tank not in use. So everyday i watch my betta waiting for him to look happy, but nothing. He barely moves. besides that he doesnt eat. Or at lease I dont see him eat. I would like to move him into my 10 gallon aquariums but i dotn know if he would get along. I have 1 10 gal with only female guppys and another 10 gal with only male guppys and another 10 gal used for fry/breeding. i also have a huge tank with oscars and a 30 gallong with cichilds, but i dont think he would like that. can i move him with the guppys? shoauld i use the male or female tank.

thanks alot bucky :hyper:

well 2.5G is the minimum reccomended tank size by most people on here and this is probably why.....

cant go in with guppys because of there fancy tails.

the betta could see them as a threat.

i bought a 3 or 4 gallon tank last week for a betta im gonna get and it was less then a tenner.

maybe upgrade him?

No reason a Betta can't go in with female guppies as long as you have some decor to the surface or some floating plants.

i really cant upgrade since i have no more room. im maxed out with fish tanks! i keep the one gallon in my bathroom on my sink. well, does anyone want to second putting him with the females? there are 5 of them now in a 10 gal. its planted with fake plants. not much floating though. ill try to get a pic of it on here. It's might work - but it may not....

You can certainly try putting him with the females, but be ready to whip him out if it doesn't work.
Observe tank closely for a good few days to make sure no one is harassed or scared and has nipped fins.

I suggest that you do add some more long plastic (or real even) plants for more hiding places and feeling of security.

ill have to do that, i have tomorow off thatwill give me time to watch. now how about my goldfish tank? i dont know how it would work but the tank is a 5 gal hex. it has a 3 inch ryukin goldfish in it. hes awsome btw.

Have you considered dividing the 10 gallon? 2.5 gallons for the betta 7.5 for the guppies. That way you could test his reaction without endangering the guppies. I think it stands a good chance of working cause you said your betta is boring. If he was goin around flaring at everything I'd be more worried. Good luck

i thought about that but id reather invest the 13.99 usd on a new tank. i saw a tread about a diy diveider im going to go check it out.

well i went to look at him and he was doing really bad. i mean i havent seen him eat ever. and his tank looks just to small. hes hiding in a corner behind a plant hes swimming but wont leave the plant. is there anthing left i could do? i dont want to fail at my first attempt at a betta. i love the way they look. maybe one day instead of the guppies i will keep bettas.

A one gallon should really be sufficient. I mean people keep them in much worse conditions. Have you done any water changes? try feeding him a tiny cricket or something else small and alive like guppy fry. Ya know give him a reason to move.

really, what do you expect from a betta in a 1 gallon tank?

well its acturally a 7 liter tank. however many gallons that is. i thought it looked about 1 gallon but..

well i put him with the females.. and i lost 1 of the smaller ones. dont know where just kinda disapered. well i took the 7 liter and totallly cleaned it out and then bought new gravel and replaced the water with water i had in a bigger tank. so the water is cycled but the tank isnt. since then ive seen him eat, flair up and swim alotmore than ever. i think he will be find.
