Hi all!

So this is the idea for the final stocking of my Vision 180.

Tank (LxDxH): 36 x 15 x 20 inch (177.0L)
Filters: Juwel Compact H/Bioflow 6.0 + Pump 600

Selected species: [Edit Species]

11 x Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi)
10 x Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi)
3 x Julii Cory (Corydoras julii)
4 x Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus)
6 x Marble Hatchet (Carnegiella strigata)
2 x Cockatoo Apisto (Apistogramma cacatuoides)

Aqua advisor says my stocking level is 95%, but that I am underfiltered.

I would just like to get a few more opinions on the biological filter capacity.

I'm running the Jewul internal compact 600lph with, bottom to top, 2 fine sponges, bio cage thing, 2 coarse sponges and a poly pad, no carbon or nitrite sponge.

I have room to add another sponge in the top basket for a total sponge volume of 2030 cm3 plus the cermax biological media.

I currently have most of the stocking above, minus the hatchets and the apistos, and water quality is excellent, never a trace of Ammonia or Nitrite.

The tank is moderately planted.

Anyone think the internal filter would be OK in this scenario? or do I definately need an external as well.

Thanks.

Simon.

internal filters are pretty useless on moderatly sized tanks. TBH i'd get a half decent external

just be wary of the dwarf cichlids in with corys as they have been known to do serious damage if they spawn due to them getting teritorial.

i would also get 7 of the same species of cory as they will be much more fun to watch in a bigger group :good:

i would remove the internal giving you more tank space and get a decent external. something like a rena xp or eheim classic 2215 would do fine :good:

Thanks.

I guess most here would recommend an external, but I quite like the Jewul, seems to work well so far. The water is good and clear, with the bio filter doing it's job.

No half decent external will fit in my cabinet, so it would be on the floor next to the tank, not ideal.

Re corys, yes, I'll probably aim to add another 3, they prefer to be in groups. I was half hoping the Julii's would shoal with the bronzes, but maybe not.

I'll have to see how they fare when I get the Apisto's, but my ph might well be a little high to get them breeding, so we'll see.
