Can the power unit on a SunSun canister filter be exchanged for a different one? I have one that does 525 gph and I think it is too strong for my tank (75g) I was wondering if I could replace it with a unit that only does 370 gph.

Have you thought about HOB or overhead trickle filters? I've found these types of filters so useful and easy maintenance since I swapped over from canisters.
