Hi I have a question about filters, ok so i have a 130 litre tank with a fluval 3 and a fluval 1 at opposite ends, but my tank still remains dirty looking :/ I do maintenance on it weekly and water changes. What are the best filters to get for this size tank? -_- And are external ones better then internal?

try using an external filter.

Are these better then? And which one for my sized tank? Thanks

IMO they are better because the dirt is locked up on the external filter and not on a filter that still sits inside the tank...
i use an aquaone aquais 1000 for my 180L...
try getting some advice from your lfs...

just looking at some filters on sites and came across these 2 eheim 2213+ classic canister filter
And eheim ecco 2234 external filter :S Which one sounds or is best? Ones at £47.95 other at £46.89

oops...sorry no experience with eheim...

somebody out there???

ive heard really bad reviews for the ecco, as it doesnt have the power etc as the origional, im also lookin (for the future) in an external for 180l (40 uk gal i think) be eheim

Bear in mind that an external fitler may not neccesarily be the cure to your ails.
Can you describe the dirty water some more? Is it literally suspended particles that make it cloudy? Or something else?

Whats your substrate and what do you feed your fish?

ok so yea it just tiny bits floatin round and the bottom very quickly messes up, i have gravel feed fish flakes frozen food and pellets, the water not like cloudy but u can see bits floatin the bottom worst.

When you do the water changes do you Gravel Vac, or just take out the water and put water back in? It sounds more like a waste / over feeding problem to me... when you stir the gunk up, does the filter suck it in pretty quick? It could just be the water currents on the bottom of the tank aren't strong enough to get the gunk where it needs to go. or could be you're over feeding... I know frozen food that doesn't get eaten tends to rot, so its better to gravel vac when you're cleaning the tank and get as much up as you can.

yea i use a gravel vacume and dont spose there is much currant at bottom as filters are about 5 inches above bottom! What can i do about this should i move them down? And you can see the filters sucking bits in is it a good idea to have filters literally facing each other at each end of the tank?
