Filter Media Choice

I`ll shortly be setting up a tank with an overhead filter which will allow a choice of filter media. I know that the tank comes with ac cartridges, would it be a good idea to change these for say some extra noodles that will help establish the bacteria colony or is ac desirable from the off ?

I would ditch the carbon, and use sponge/noodles instead.
