Hey guys! I'm sorry if this topic does not belong here but I wasn't sure where else to put it!

So after being out of the fish hobby for about 5 years, I decided, a few months back, to start up again but on a smaller scale. I had a friend who's mother was selling a 29 usg tank her garage sale so, I went and picked it up. When I got it, it was disgusting! It had dried algae and calcium all over it! the only thing I could do to clean it out was to use CLR (yes, I know, I did TONS of rinsing and the tank sat with water in it for about 2 weeks there after). My problem is that even after all the scrubbing and all the CLR, there is still a film left on the inside walls of the tank that make the water look a bit cloudy. My problem is that I've had the tank set up with fish since August now and I'm not sure how to get rid of it. Do you guys know what this is? Do you have any suggestions? I need help!

Thanks!

Austini get this alot too. i blame mine on the hard water aka lime scale.

No, it's not bacteria, it's hard. I can't even scrude it off with my fingernail. Deftuch, that's kind of what I was thinking. It's been there since I got the tank. You can REALLY see it when the tank is empty and dry. I thought that once it was filled up with water I wouldn't be able to see it anymore which was kind of true. Its a lot less noticeable when wet but you can still see. I just feel that it really takes away from the beauty of the tank. I just want that crystal clear tank where you don't even notice that the glass is there! I fear my only option is to buy a new tank.. : /

if your tanks empty try using limescale remover's it worked a treat for my tank ( i used harpic) just make sure you rinse the tank out really well before adding fish

the first stage of this forms a sort of white dust that can easily be removed by using a spong on the inside glass. takes a bit of bother but i dont see any other way of preventing it if you have hard water :/.
