I bought a male fighter yesterday, and when i got him home he was very subdued and he keeps hiding away. I know it takes time for fighters to settle, but my last one was very active when i got him.
I was watching him this morning and noticed a white patch on his head. It's not cotton-wool like, so im fairly sure its not fungus. It looks more like an indentation to me, and i am worried i have bought a fish with an ulcer. I have treated his tank with melafix, and he is on his own.
What do you think it is?

Sorry sbout the pics, i cant get a decent one. But you can see the size of it in the photo, and like i said, its like an indent.

it's not an ulcer. Its more likely a damaged patch that is slightly infected. Make sure you medicate him because fighters don't normally last long when this happens. Melafix might work but a broad spectrum medication might be a stronger and better choice. See how he goes over the next couple of days and if it gets worse with the Melafix then get something stronger.

ok...when you say something stronger...do you mean going to the vets, or can i get this from a LFS?
i have been advised to dilute some melafix and apply it directly to the patch with a cotton wool bud...is this bad or good advice
?

something stronger would be a broad spectrum medication available from the local fish shop.
You can apply Melafix directly to the area with a cotton bud. That is fine and often gives a better result than just having the medication in the water.
