Fiber filter pad instead of carbon filters in hob top fin 55 gallon pros and cons?

I heard about the fiber filter padding on this website & decided to try it because my carbon pre made filters are getting clogged alot & I'm replacing them often, too often. Prob every 3 weeks or less. I have had some brown algae so I figured that was the culprit. Can anyone tell me if this is better?? Also, I do rince the filters in tank water in a bucket once a week but still clogging quickly. I have removed carbon & returned them to the tank only to buy myself an extra week or so. I'm prob goin to get spongd filters down the line but will the fiber filter pad do the trick in the mean time??
