I am broke and can't afford to by flourish and excel right now. My plants aren't suffering but I would like to see them grow faster and healthier. Are there any cheap resources in which I could use to dose carbon and other trace elements into the tank?

Thanks.

Dry ferts are the cheapest.
To save money, decrease lighting to one tube and avoid adding carbon/CO2 all together. Therefore plants wont grow as quick and hence wont need as much nutrients. Job done. Water changes dont need to be as often either (assuming the plants aren't dieing).

The lighting is already one tube. It is a 35W T8 on a 55 gallon. Very low tech setup here. I am in the states. Any suggestions on where I could acquire the dry ferts?

Try these ferts i got this about a month or two ago and notice my amazon swords looking much healthier now.
