Dear forum,

I have been scouring the internet for more information but have had mixed answers. My partner had been given some extra guppies from the pet store this morning (long story). After getting home one of the female guppies is swimming along the surface. If the fish dives it seems to float back to the surface. The fish doesn't seem to be in any major distress.

My partner is unsure if it was doing this at the pet store. Hopefully some of the expertise here on the forums can help us further. The tank already has guppies and neon tetras and they are all really friendly, calm and relieved (part of the long story)...

Will pictures help if I can possibly get any? (Difficult to take pictures through the glass)

Many thanks!

Super fast response. Thanks.

I didn't actually think of swim bladder disease. Thought this occurs mainly in goldfish (As we have 4 Sarasa Comets also) I have done a lot of research for those (Amazing fish).

If we just make sure that the food is soaked should the fish recuperate? I'm extremely annoyed as we had to return fish to the pet shop and they gave us an exchange, and now I have an ill guppy. Needless to say I won't be going back to this pet store.

While I am here, one more question if I may. How many guppies could we put into our 60 litre fish tank? We have 6 neon tetras in there already and 10 guppies. Still looks rather empty though :)

i think it might be the same with most fish, IF its swim bladder, with my goldfish i stopped feeding him for 2 days then i had some frozen but put in water to break up, krill for my lobsters i fed them that and by a day or two they looked alot better. it might be stress or how the store took care of them too. make sure the water is airated if u have a bubbler

Just to update, unfortunately the guppy did not survive. My fiancée found it on it's side at the top of the tank this morning... Shall never be going back to that pet store.
