Hi, at the moment ive got a pair of breeding kribs and 2 white cloud mountain minnows in a 20G planted tank. I really want to see my kribs at their full potential and was considering buying some sort of livebearer for a constant supply of live food. Just wondering if anyone else has tried anything similar and what thier thoughts were, what sort of livebearer would be best? Would the kribs kill the livebearer when it went it to the tank?

i would go with getting some more minnows and just feeding the kribs live food like live bloodwrom etc. but you could keep livebearers with kribs. are they a breeding pair the kribs?

:good:

Well they are sort of breeding, the female laid eggs about a week ago and then stayed in the cave for 4 or 5 days then she just reappeared with no fry so i dont know if the male of female ate the eggs or if something else happened. It was the first time they had spawned so im hoping they will get it right eventually.

Try and buy a brine shrimp kit and culture them for feeding, they are good food for breeding kribs, also, as above live bloodworms or even frozen ones would be good.

getting livebearers to give birth and feeding them fry seems a bit of a hassle just for live foods. :good:

Kribs fry in the wild live off dried dead fish and algae(i explain it in the fish myths thread if you want to know more on their natural diet/enviroment)- before the days of fry foods, many people used to leave some lettuce leaves in a jar of water somewhere sunny, after a couple of days the water goes green the lettuce leaves start to disindegrate- this is because little micro organisms are eating the lettuce, and this green water makes excellent fry food for many types of young fry out there, including livebearer and krib fry and is quite a natural form of fry food.

So feeding a veg and high protein easily digestable diet for the krib fry would probably be most beneficial for the fry.
How old/large are your fry?
