when in my lfs, they were selling live daphnia contained in a small satchet with some odd pink liquid (my first experience, can you guess?)

so, i thought, that would be a lovely treat for my danios n tetras. i bought some.

now i dont know wth to do with i. do i need to strain the daphnia from this liquid or is it good to go in the tank (the guy at the checkout was a button monkey)? just how do i feed these to my fish?

the liked the dead preserved bloodworms though :)

ive got a fine seive (sp??) that i got free with a larger one i bought for rinsing gravel with, just dump some in that and rinse with good ole tap water?

only plan on feeding half as that will suffice for one feed, keeping the other half in the liquid they came in, in a small carton for a few days before feeding again.

think that should be ok.

Yep, that sounds fine. You could rinse in a cupfull of tank water, but probly doesn't matter really.
Good luck keeping the remaining daphnia alive afterwards - don't know what I do wrong, my live food tends to die really soon after buying it

I only ever strain mine never bother with the rinsing! You can actually raise your own daphnia in a jar of tank water if you add a couple of adults they breed well! I have a pond which in summer is full of daphnia, bloodworms and mosquito larve saves a bit of money and the fish spend most of the summer getting full on live food!

I pour the whole satchet into a bowl... let any sediment etc. sink... then pipet them up with as little water as possible and put in tank...

... don't feed daphnia exclusively... they are low in nutrients and should be fed as an occasional 'treat'...

yup they are just a nice treat only, something to give them a little difference in their diet.
