I've just got my F8 puffer from the lfs and it's broken out in whitespot.
The water and plants in his tank did come from another tank. But i've since added salt so he's in brackish water now.

Will adding the salt be enough to remove the ich? Should i add half dose of ich meds?

Thanks

I would say the easiest way to remove the ich will be to vary the salinity. I should think that a short term acclimitisation up to an SG of 1.010 would be fine on the fish and fatal to the pathogen (though be careful not to raise it too quickly as it can affect the filter colony).

If you have only recently put the salt in then so long as it is up around the 1.005 area it may be wise to leave it a fortnight or so to see if the salt at this level will eradicate the pathogen.

At the moment i think the salt should be around 1.002.
I added about 2g per litre. The refractometer is on order and should arrive in the next few days. I didnt want to add too much salt until i knew the salinity. Will it be ok at this level for now?
