got my fluval 105 set up today and for some reason every 5 mins or so there will be a big surge of bubbles sprayed into the tank and i cant work out why its doing so.

the filter is silent when in normall operation and when it sprays the bubbles into the tank you can hear a swooshing noise from the filter then it sprays the bubbles a few seconds later???

ive checked all pipework joints and all are fine and ime sure if any of them wasnt connected correctly ider get water come out of them?

To quote the great linus torvalds, "RTFM, my friend." Fluvals spray out excess oxygen built up in the filters and such for atleast a day or so. It's perfectly normal but if it continues to do so after a few days then you may have a leak or a weak seal.

My fluval 205 stopped blowing surges of bubbles after about 2 hours of running. This is normal and it even states that in the owners manual.

Hence RTFM :p

lol I must be a bit slow this mroning. I was trying to figure out what RTFM was short for until I read on :)

But yeah this is normal. You can also try turning it of, "gently" rocking it from side to side and then using the primer pump to gently pump most of the air bubbles out of it.

all is good now ive got home from work and not seem or heard any bubble surges.

ok ignor what i just wrote...as i clicked add reply i heard it build up and release more bubbles into the tank grrrrr.

could it be caused by having some slack on the pipework do you rekon???

It COULD be...but its probably still just running all the bubbles out. Mine really did spray for about two days or maybe more...I told my girlfriend that it was just mimicking the effect of a wave crashing on the surface of the water :D

all sorted now i gradually tilted the unit to the side an let it back and it let some serious bubbles out and since it hasnt done it.

Now we just have to wait around 12-24 months until said fluval filter leaks catastrophically and throws tank water all over the floor.

God I love fluvals. Why on earth did I ever buy a second one? :shout:

Thank you for the sudden urge to run downstairs and punt my fluval through the window.

o dear that doesnt sound to good at all.......are they prone to leaks then after a year or 2?????

Sadly they are very prone. Both mine did it, both of CFC's did it. I think Paul_MTS had one do it. All of them around the 2 year mark. My lfs refuses to stock the Fluval cannisters. Sadly Fluval are still miles behind Eheim when it comes to cannisters. Eheims may cost more, but they last for a good 10 to 20 years. So you save in the long run (much like Tunze).

Edit

I should probably clarify that by no means do all Fluvals leak, but just far too many for my liking.

I have a few that have been going strong for over 4 years. That being said though I think these are the exception to the rule and I prefer my eheim that I have now (just wish the eheims had a priming pump).
