I was hoping that someone could give me some easy step by step instructions on how to properly deal with ich? I don't have it in any tanks but I wanna be prepared to when I might get it one day, so i won't be on here all panicked. So thanks for any advice! :)

you should do a 50% water change and then get some ich meds and put however much it tells you to put in your tank. i have had ich before and it killed all my fish so then i did some studying. :p

Just read the topic that Boyden linked to. Hopefully you'll never have to deal with it if you take proper care of your tanks and fish.

Most important thing to know about ich, when you've got it on the run, stay after it until its entirely done.  Keep medicating for at least four days after the last visible sign of ich is gone off your fish, a full week is fine too.   Ultimately, if you don't kill it all, it can come back just as strong if not stronger if you don't completely irradicate it.  Show no mercy.  Its less stressful on the fish to medicate a little longer than necessary, than to stop too soon and have to start all over again from the start.

i think your time would be better spent reading up on how to keep an aquarium environment healthy / proper tank maintanance....if that is done your chance of an ich breakout is slim to none....i have had it in one of my many tanks, one time in 25+ years

Yah I do read a lot about taking care of the tank, but a lot of the time it says that ich is very common and I will probably have to deal with it at least once if not more. So I thought better safe then sorry! But okay thanks for the information and the link!

Ich isn't that common as you think. As Mikey says, if you are careful, you may never deal with it.
I for one have only seen it in other peoples's tanks and even once in the LFS, but haven't dealt with it myself.
And even if you have to deal with it one day, it's easy to diagnose and there is vast information how to treat it.
The dangerous part is, when your fish get something else different than ich, impossible to figure out sometimes and can take months to eradicate. The key to all is stress, bad water conditions, failure to quarantine, etc..etc..
So stick to proper care and maintenance, and learn about that instead. Prevention is the best cure.

Absolutely. I have never had to deal with it (knocks on wood) but have dealt with other problems, mostly brought on by inexperience and not perfect tank maintenance.
