hi the cool plants are known as moss/algea balls, the true name is malmo or marmo balls, they come from the rivers of japan where the algea is rolled in the rapids to creat this round shape. They are algea but the good type the fish dont eat it and it doesnt spread or cause probs,
i got mine from maidenhead aquatics in wimborne dorset.
We have one in our tank. Not found any more yet though.
They are very slow growing but will eventually grow to a foot across! Like a football!
When they are fully grown they are hollow in the centre too. B)
You should give them a squeeze out now and then to keep them free of debris.
During the day when they are photosynthesizing, in good lighting, they will float to the surface of the tank then drop back down again.
