Request Help. PLEASE!
My partners tank -and the majority of it's inhabintants- are 5 years old. We've had a regular/natural turn over of the platties ( breeding not introduced!)as you would expect but no other problems. The tank was at one point rather crowded but we removed one of the bigger plants and that stopped the breeding. They have all been very healthy and show no signs of stress.
Tank size
D40xH30xL30) 104.8l ( i've never used the testing kit before - my other half normally does it so i may have got it a bit wrong- not helpful i know)
pH:6.8
ammonia: don't know
nitrite:0
nitrate:50 -100
kH:0 - 3d
gH:10 -16d
tank temp:25'C
Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):Two stages
25cm Shark
tage 1) redness around fin base and mouth. ( 2 weeks)
Stage 2) Clouded eye then Eye 'exploded' outwards - died
All the other fish seem fine. No outward symptoms. We tried treating it ( see below) but the shark died yesterday at somepoint during the night. That evening there were four other dead fish ( all the 'big' ones) that had previously exhibited no symptoms and the water was really cloudy ( grey)
Volume and Frequency of water changes: 25-30% every two weeks. ( we did a 50% water change last night- as you would expect but the water is still cloudy this morning) The shark has/had a tendency to get really stressed out during changes and tries to jump out of the tank( has done it on several occasions.
Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
1x Fluval3plus underwater Filter
2x subaqua aerators powered by a tetratec APS100 pump
4 natural plants ( 2 of which we introduced after the shark started looking sickly to try and boost the water)
1 plastic log.Fluval Tronic Aquarium heater
Tank inhabitants:
25cm Shark (deceased)
1x Angel Fish (deceased)
2x Golden Barbs (deceased)
1x Gurami
1x Catfish
2x platties
1x red barb
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 2 new waterplants in response to shark illness ( which may have introduced some tiny snails!- we've never had snails before)
Exposure to chemicals: Aquarium salt ( treatment appropriate to tank size)
1x treatment of Interpet Anti fungus and Fin Rot ( treatment appropriate to tank size)
1x treatment of Interpet general tonic.
(also use a compatable weekly cleaner and chlorine control when changing the water)
