I have an empty 29 gallon tank. Many of you guys probably know a lot about this tank. This is actually not a new tank but its a decent clean tank with no filter and no heater. Can someone suggest some filters and heaters (cheap price) that I can get for this tank.

ALSO!!! I don't know many beautiful fish to put in here and how many. Can someone recommend me some fish and how many should be put in? I love colorful fish so thats a small hint.

Oh and maybe one that can live long.

THANKS AHEAD OF TIME!

The general rule is 1 inch of MATURE fish per gallon. i.e. Remember to consider how big the fish will get in the future.

Secondly, if you don't have your heart set on any particular fish yet, test the pH and hardness of your tap water to see what kinds of fish will do best with your water. You can of course alter these using different methods, but it's much easier to just be able to use water directly from the tap!

Lastly, just because a fish may fit into your tank using the inch per gallon rule, doesn't mean it will be happy. Some fish are more active swimmers than others, so it's a good idea to do research from independent sources (i.e. sources that are not trying to sell you something) for any larger fish that you may wish to put in your tank...basically anything that grows to be 5 inches or more.

I have to disagree, i only find this usful if you wish to breed the fish or keep very delicate fish JMO

get glo-fish, so cool

Are glowfish healthy and common? How come I have never heard of it till now.

How many Female Bettas can live in a 29 gal.

Wiki article on "glofish": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GloFish

If you don't want to read it...Basically they are Danios that had jellyfish genes spliced in to make them glow. I have heard that they only are only truly fluorescent when a black-light is present however...can anyone confirm this?

go for normal zebra danios then, there a joy to watch especially in groups of 6+
they come cheap too at petsmart i got them for 50 cents each Canadian..
They play so cutely together. For cheap fitlers all ican think about are whispers by tetra but ive never used them, ive only been into fish keeping for a few months lol so ive played with elite stingrays , aquaclears ,and DIY's
For that extra bit of cash i would reccomend an aquaclear 50 as they have customizable media, and for a bit more money go for a biowheel filter, but if your on a strict budget go for a whisper
for fishwise a shoal of zebra danios, and some cories and kuhli loaches
Edit you wanted colour ful fish my bad:
http://www.fishforums.net/White-Cloud-Moun...now-t41918.html try these they dont require a heater, you could try a shoal of thses+1 gold fish as a centre peice
whats good about this set up is no heater is required, and white clouds can be found sold as feeders if not can still be aquired cheaply

I'd also suggest an Aquaclear 50. Good price and a great filter.

For a heater, I'd get 100W. Buy the best you can afford, it's worth it.

It's hard to recommend fish. Can you tell us what you have seen that you like? Have a look through the Index for ideas. Then we can help you with what's compatible with what.
