Good evening all, i have just purchased the following, http://www.aquariumplantfood.co.uk/fertilisers/dry-chemicals/starter-kit/ei-starter-kit.html

The reason being as i am sure alot of you are aware that over time this will work out a lot cheaper than dosing TPN+

My question is how would you recommend i dose ? Daily ? Every other day ?

On the site it says the following.....

Dosing
Macro 3x a week. (10ml per 50ltr of Aquarium water)

Micro 3x a week. (10ml per 50ltr of Aquarium water)

20-50% weekly water change.

--------------

Would this be ok for my size of tank ?

Cheers
LP aka the EI noob :D

Here's a calculator, it explains things in greater detail.

Yes it will be fine for your tank. This is how i recommend its done.

Sunday- 50% water change then dose macro, 10ml per 50L
Monday- dose micro 10ml per 50L
Tuesday- macro
Wednesday- micro
Thursday- macro
Friday- micro
Saturday- day off, no dosing

It will be a little while as i have one bottle of TPN+ left but i will update the thread when i do switch over.

Cheers

I dose daily so for your tank (on what I dose) that would be 10ml macro, 3ml micro every day.

That is a little bit different to what Slim recommends. What made you choose your dosing amounts Supercoley ?

If you dose micro and macro together doesnt the iron and potassium bond rendering it usless?
I dose the way i suggested and get perfect results but i suppose when it comes down to EI, its what suits you really.

No idea why the site linked to in the OP's post says 10ml. I would say 4 teaspoon KNO3 = similar to 32g. Maybe a little less but nothing less than 25g or so.

So going by the following:
http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/EI.htm

That means for my 125ltr I would be dosing 12.5ml x 3 days = 37.5. divided by 7 days = just over 5ml daily so 5ml will do me :)

Iron and Phosphate, not potassium, Yes it does react and bond however if we are too worried about that reaction then it would happen anyway. There is phosphate in the tank already on the days you don't dose macros so when you dosed the trace it would then react with the phosphate already in the tank.

We do go on about this reaction a lot and it is true however it doesn't seem to affect my scapes the way I dose.
About an hour before lights on (or before I leave to work when I am/was working) I dose them both within a minute of each other.

I think the macro/micro alternating with the rest day is more for ease so people know what to do and when to do it :)

Cheers guys, so is it best to dose before the lights come on ?

Doesn't really matter. I used to dose circa 6am before I went out to work when my photoperiod started 3pm. No problems
