Hi there, just after some opinions on my new eheim 2213 filter.

Its been set up for about a month now and has started to get noisier.

At first it was nearly silent running, this being the main reason I chose it. but over the course of this last week it has developed to a noise level that can  be heard in adjoining rooms.

I'm not saying its LOUD as such but it can be heard over a quiet tv. Its a buzzing mechanical type noise, and with very little mechanical knowledge I would say its probably coming from the impellor / motor of the filter.

Has anyone any experience of this, able to suggest likely fixes.

I had a similar problem with a HOB filter and was wondering if it is the sand substrate getting into the moving parts?

Look forward to any comments.

I know for a fact that if you have a hob filter combined with sand substrate you would be better using a sponge pre filter on the intake.
I use the edge sponge on the intake of my filters and that solves the issues. and its a bonus because my fishes and shrimp won't get caught in there.

oh how horrible it is to see a fish trapped in there!

One other thing you could do is to clean the motor assembly before putting the sponge there so you can get rid of the sand that accumulated.

cheers!

just a shot in the dark, has it been moved & its now vibrating off the cabinet??

Garbolino - was hoping it was that.. but alas it is pretty free standing.

l_l_l - this sounds like a good idea, I've been reading around and there have been similar suggestions about making sure the movement of the sand is limited as it can go into the filter.

Would a pre filter not limit the flow into the canister though?
