I recently purchased a dwarf Gourami, It is my first one. He was fine the first couple of days, but now he has a rather large belly (I think its his stomach it might be a swim bladder or the wierd labrynth organ)and is acting rather sluggish. The only thing i might be able to attribute as a cause would be the feeding of baby brine shrimp to the tank. The day after he ate the baby shrimps i noticed the problem. I dont think that it is the cause, but he may have potentially swallowed lots of air, or something, and figured it was somewhat relevant. does anyone have any ideas on what could be going on with my dwarf gourami?

Without any helpful information on your aquarium, can't possibly diagnose the problem here. But he isn't swollen because he ate too much, and the air goes into an organ in his head, not his belly, so that's not the reason either. Do read here:

This species is utterly useless in my opinion, and I consistently recommend against people buying them from anywhere other than local breeders. Until shoppers become more careful about these fish, the farms will keep cranking out sub-standard, inbred, virus-ridden dwarf gouramis. The sad thing is that 90% of the people who buy one and the find it dies, go straight out and buy a replacement! Arghh!!!

Cheers, Neale

sorry about not being more thorough with my post. However, based on your post and a little bit more research on the DGIV (stumbled across some of your very own nmonks) it seems as though my DG has the DGIV. He is quarantined now, hopefully he might make it, but my expectations are low. :(

Thanks for your help though
