Hi

Basically what I need to know is can other Gouramis get DGD? Coz if they can then I'm pretty sure that's what's happening to my Honeys. I've now lost 2 and the Red one I bought last week is on her way out too. The two I bought on Tuesday and fine right now but of course I'm now worried they'll catch it.

All I know is it's some sort of Bacterial infection where they go listless, hide, darken in colour and then die and so far the other fish in my tank haven't caught it. This could of course just be coincidence. I think my female that died first could have developed an infection due to the stress of being bullied by the male. Then I'd say the same with my Red Honey coz she's only very small and he was very big (to her) and he started picking on her straight away. She was fine when I put her in the tank though a week ago. Then my male died but he showed no signs of illness whatsoever (both females have) and died suddenly when I moved him to his own tank (so maybe stress?).

But it does seem suspicious that this has now happened with 3 of them.....so I don't know? Is it possible they have DGD Any info anyone can give me on this disease would be really helpful.

Wow, all these Gourami keepers and no problems with DGD ever.

You're all really lucky ;)

I haven't had enough gouramis to know - hence no reply! ;)

But I was under the impression that DGD was only caugh by dwarves. I may be wrong. Sometimes fish die. S'just the way it goes. Always a good argument for quarantining though. I know it wouldn't make any difference if they all had it anyway, but I'd rather quar and be safe than not and be sorry. Am considering getting some honeys after I move, will let you know how they get on :)

Hiya, thanks Cazzie. Yeah I always thought it was just dwarfs too but then someone suggested it might be "Gourami" disease and it got me thinking.

I now think it might be a water issue. Honeys like quite soft water don't think and I believe mine to be quite hard. Getting a test kit to find out for sure. Do you think it would make much difference to their health?
