Are we absolutely positive that female dwarf gourami's do not have the markings of the males? I have 4 dwarf gouramis and I'm trying to figure out the sex of them. They are all blue with orange stripes. Some people think the females are silver and not blue. Some thing you can tell by the fins. I have one that has squared off fins not pointed or rounded and I'm trying to decide if it's a male or female. According to the color male. According to the fins female. Can someone please help me figure this out?

i've only once seen silver ones, and they were labelled as female.

cheers :good:

I got these on google.

Apparently male dwarf.

Apparently female dwarf.

Also when i was last in my LFS they had some dwarf gourami in. They had male neon dwarfs in 1 and they were neon blue with orange stripes and pointed fins, then in another tank they had female neon dwarf and they were a little bit more dull with more rounded fins, but they still had the orange stripes. I'm probably wrong but i'm sure you can get colourful females.

female dg's are just plain silver and slightly smaller than the males. they dont pop up very often at lfs due to them not being as colourfull and therefor dont sell as well.
i would say both in the pics above are males

A lfs near me has male and female in and all the males are the same as in the pictures above and all the females are a plain gold/creamy/silver colour.

some males have pointier fins than others... females are noticeably duller than males. if theres any question, than its probably a male.
