Scientific name - Echinodorus tenellus

Common terms - Dwarf chain-sword, Microsword, Pygmy Chain Sword

Geographic origin - South America

Type (stem, bulb, rhizome, floating etc.) - rhizome

Max. size (height, width) - 5-10cm height, 5+cm width

Lighting required - moderate to high

Temperature - 19-30C

Water chemistry requirements (pH, hardness) - adaptable

Growth rates - medium

Demands - medium

Additional info - Will do best in nutrient-rich substrates with good lighting and CO2. It propogates via runners and will quickly form a dense carpet if conditions are suitable that will require thinning out to prevent smothering and light starvation. Needs plenty of iron, either through the substrate or water column. If leaves go transparent or yellow then this is a good indicator that more micronutrients are necessary. A lovely plant that is suitable for foregrounds of medium to large tanks. I may look too large for smaller tanks as a foregound plant.
