hello mate, any stuff in the water will settle in time but its probably best to do a few water changes to take it out. did you strip down the tank completely and remove everything to clean it?
also as the filter isnt mature anymore i would give all the media a real good wash including the pipes filter casing etc to get a good start :good:

yea ive not touched the filter untill i get the heater

stripped it all out boiled the gravel and rocks etc tackled the tank with a hosepipe and towels etc it was all clean just guessing the gravel was a lot worse than i thought

If you've never worked with aquarium gravel before, it can be surprising how much rinsing time it takes to really get it clear of dust, prior to tank filling. On the other hand, you've discovered another thing that's good to have a feel for, namely that if you have to do something with the substrate or have to tear the tank down for any other reason, its good to just go after it. It usually isn't as large a job as your mind can make it out to be!
