hi,
i just noticed theres a lot of dust in my tank
just like bits of a plant root, fish poop, stuff like that
how do i get rid of it?
pretty unsightly...
havent washed filter in a long while.
maybe the reason

Use a basic model gravel cleaner and suck it out.
Established filters should be cleaned at least once a month.
Oh ok. Feel like i havent cleaned in like 4 months….
I vacuum when i waterchange anyway

Dirty filters can harbor high nitrAtes, as well...get on a monthly cleaning schedule...I have so many filters, I keep a pocket-size notebook of my cleaning dates, so that I can stay on top of it.
