a few questions here.
ok first of i found a peice of wood that is old and dead but not really rotten.
will it sink after a while or will it take forever to sink?
its to big to boil so im going to bleach it how long should i let it sit in the water dilouted with bleach for?
thanks alot

i would perhaps put it in a bucket, boil some water and pour the boiling water over it and then leave it to soak until its done releasing tannins

id say bleach is a bad bad idea. is it big enough to go in your oven? if so, roast it.

i agree i would say thats better that bleaching it??? but as you can see i am labeled a newbie so i dont really know.
it just sounds a bit toxic to be puting a bleached peice of wood anywhere near a tank in the tank

you can use bleach in your tank, eg cleaning it but it needs to be extremely well rinsed out. drift wood would act like a sponge with many cells offering arbor to bleach. roasting it should still kill most of the bacteria, scrub it with plain old hot water n scrubbing brush to clean it first if you wish.

i would agree, bleach will kill everything in your tank if not properly rinsed. so its better to use hot water and roast/boil things. i much rather not take the chance of not rinsing all of the bleach off of something and all of my fish die.

well lets just say i already bleached it -_-
can i roast it now and will all the bleach roast off haha
or even let it sit outside for a couple of days?
but my main question is how do i make it sink!

To get rid of the bleach you could probably soak it in a bucket of water with lots of dechlorinator for a while.

you will need:

a bin (the big kitchen type that should be able to hold it)

a hose

a few days.

soak over night in very hot water in the bin.

rinse soak rinse soak rinse soak rinse soak rinse soak etc etc.

try every hour to 2 hours

after two or three days of this, roast it.

you might, just might, get all the bleach out.
