Hi All

In the excitement of rescaping my 125l planted tank, i purchased a lovely piece of mopani drift wood and without pre soaking it (i know...) and its now leaching tannins like a joke. the water is a dark brownie colour. I am doing daily water changes approx 50% but its looking a nightmare at the moment.

Any ideas on how long it will take to stop leaching? Usually i would take it out and leave it to soak, but ive got all my anubais attached to it...

Any help is much appreciated

How big a piece of wood is it?

I've had wood leech tannins for days/weeks/months! It gets less with time.

Putting carbon in the filter for a week or 2 will help the process as well.

personally I'd just leave it to do it's thing and wait for it to clear naturually. It will cause no harm.

Unless you absoloutely MUST have crystal clear water?

Thanks guys.

No I don't mind a little bit of colour but it's currently a bit excessive! You can barely make out the plants or anything else for that matter

Thanks tetra-chris. I think I've got a couple of carbon for my ehiem finding in the shed so will shove those in!

are yo sure its driftwood. i've heard of bogwood leaching that stuff but not driftwood...

Ah!!! now thats an interesting question... to be honest not sure if its bog or drift wood... just went do to the LFS and purchased it...

It could be mopani driftwood still, my piece leeched tannins like crazy the first day i soaked it.
