Hey, just wanted to share something not often seen… I have some of these little creatures in my small outdoor pond, currently fishless. Not sure how long they have been there, several months for sure. One “hatched” overnight. The dragonflies lay their eggs in the pond, which grow into these nymphs that live underwater for quite a while. They eventually crawl out, cling to a plant or whatever is near and molt out of their shells…just like cicadas! Amazing really, look how big it is now!

Absolutely fascinating!

I have had damselfy nymphs a couple of times in my tank, definitely a unwelcome guest in a community tank but nonethless really interesting but predatory creatures.

Great pictures by the way, thanks for sharing.

I have had ponds for years but I have never seen this before. Was amazed to discover these nymphs living there! First I thought they were some kind of insect that had fallen into the pond, I tried to rescue them out but they wouldn’t have it! So I left them alone and researched.. really cool:D

Yes, really cool and there are varying species of those in different colours etc.

Quite common to see those nymphs, just takes a good eye to spot them and they are found in lots of different ponds whether its man made or natural ponds, fascinating lifecycle of these dragonflies.
