my full grown oscar died today :-( ....... now i have a 75 gallon tank for some options. i think ill sell it but if i dont i want a mudskipper tank. My question is how to you get the bottom of the tank to look like mud? Would real mud cause a problem?

While there's nothing intrisically wrong with mud in an aquarium, it wouldn't look very attractive. For one thing, it will likely cloudy the water, making it difficult to see the fish and reducing the efficiency of the filter. I would think silver sand or river sand would make a better bet. Mudskippers do like to do dig, and they also like some type of cave into which they can crawl and rest. Possibly a sandbank on one side of the tank with one or more artificial caves (i.e., tubes) built into it would be the ideal.

Be sure and check out Richard Mleczko's web page for more on these fish.

Cheers,

Neale
