does anyone know what the active ingredient is in easycarbo or similar products?
and is it easy to get hold off?

i want to start dosing easycarbo and dry ferts, dry ferts are cheaper than the ready mixed stuff. can you do the same thing with easycarbo?

the active ingredient is glutaraldehyde, which is a cleaning agent, use for sterilising equipment in the NHS. I doubt you'll get hold of any, if you did, you wouldn't know the concentrations to dose in a tank anyways. This is a guarded secret, so in short...just buy the off the shelf brands. :good:

allright lol thoguht there might be a cheep way around it...

You could make it yourself, but you'd need reflux and distillation equipment, if you did manage to source an NHS bottle you could calculate its concentration titremetrically if you know how to and had access to the equipment.

i take chemistry at collage >.> i know how to do a reflux and distillation.(and my mums a science teacher) =D. i think it would be easyer to buy it... to be honest...

i know some people who want to be doctors but i guess it would take awhile to source the stuff...

there must be away to make it? from scratch.

its now seeming like to much effort though.

easycarbo or flourish excell?

Never used easy carbo, but excel, to me, was useless... I have had better results just dosing EI ferts.

as i say, it's quite dangerous if you're playing about with it.

if its that toxic why are we putting it in our tanks?...

im still looking for EL ferts >.> but i was thinking easycarbo.. apparently its more conc so you get more for your money (there about the same prize?)

It's at a concentration in the tank where it is not harmful to fish, straight from the bottle however it'll irritate your eyes, lungs, nasal cavity, you name it, get it on your skin and it'll turn yellow. It's the same stuff that they use in the treatment of Verucas.

oh right. ouch. buying it,it is =]

and im lookng on aqua essentials i cant find ferts anywhere? link? <3
