Been looking on the green machine at plants to make isle of the crypts a Dutch style scape and after looking through their plants it says on some of the beautiful plants that they have high demand and need high light. At the same time it says HC has these demands but I can grow it perfectly in my 35litre with low light so what do I do as I'm worried I've been lucky with the HC and any other high demand plants won't do well and won't stay red?

awwww Ian! Is it still not working for you? :(

ps. I thought there was movement now to the idea that some of the high demand plants are actually high co2 plants rather than high light plants?

i got some hc growing emersed (just propgateing it for a new tank maybe)... no heater no co2 nothing besides soil and water in a tank (liveing in the uk) it seems to be taking really well... usefull tip... split up any stock of plants if possible... so if you lose 1 you can propagate the other and not go out and buy more (its what im trying to do)

id say try it and see? worst that would happen is it loses its redness?

Ian what's going on lol my HC in my pico has taken off how can you be struggling?

I grew HC in a 25litre cube with Excel, TPN+ and 22W t5. Admittedly it did have 46W to start with, which is so not neccasary. Don't know how I got away with that..

I also grew HC in my Trigon and my nano, both under low light. I just can't do it in my current tank...it's really doing my head in now. It's still getting really leggy, and i have tried everything in my power to revive it.

I agree certain plants have high demands, ie C02, but i was totally away from the high lighting issue, however, this episode has made me think otherwise.

I dunno what's going on with yours dude, maybe keep trimming and see what happens, it may help it spread and stay low. In my 35 it's like 1.1WPG and not remotely bright, the 60 is really white but the 35 is kinda yellow ish red light, kinda dull really, it took a while to get started and move through the sand substrate but just be patient and keep trimming dude. :good:
