OKAY, so I was on leave (vacation) for three weeks in Jan. I guess I missed the DELETE thing ... what ashame. Anyway, while I was home I stopped in at the lfs I used to work at to buy some fish. When I finally got home and settled everything in I thought "how great, new fish in my tank". Well, after two days, the Cardinal tetras still were acting a bit OFF. So, I started to study every fish in the tank. It seemed that only the Cardinals were bothered so I thought I might be about to lose them all and started to think about meds and daily water changes. As I was inspecting the tank I crept along watching one fish that just happened to swim past where my thermometer is ..... D'OH!!!!!! Somehow the temp in the tank was down to 72F. Over the two days I increased the water temp up to 76F ... low and behold not only did my Cardinals perk right up, it seems like all the fish have. I just thought I would share that with you so that we don't get complacent. Hey, everyone can slip up from time to time, I'm just glad it wasn't anything worse.

what happened to all my post i had like 100 well i guess they got me to :(
my siggy my beautiful siggy its all gone nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! it took me forever to do that :-(

Isn't 80-86 a little high for most fish? I know that some like high temps like Discus but I figured most would be fine in the mid 70s.

I didn't know a temperature of 72 would be that bad for most fish. I usually get the more hardy fish (like my guppies) that can handle a wider range of temps but I thought that anywhere in the 70s would be ok. Hmm.

It's not bad for fish, but lower temps lower immunity to stuff like Ich, and higher temps allow less oxygen in the water. even in a differece of 1-2 degrees can affect the ways fish act drasticaly.
