Just asking because he looks a little discolored in areas. Is this natural or is he not getting enough nutrients?

Thanks!

I believe its fine. Ironically, just yesterday I noticed mine looks exactly the same. I'm sure someone can confirm it, but I'm pretty sure thats just how they are. :good:

It's stress colouration, so he's not happy about something...

I dont know what it could be though. Could not enough food cause the stress? I really do not know what else could be wrong with him. Any ideas on typical problems I may be overlooking?

Does he have a tank big enough for him, and more importanly, a cave or something for him to hide? The most of the plecos hide in caves and under trees during day light. Not feeling safe without a shelter can cause a lot of stress.

I did not know that about the shelter. He does not have anything to truly hide himself. I guess I will have to get something for him. I got stuff for my catfish to hide in/under but forgot about my plec

You can pick up slate caves to fit a tank corner relatively cheaply on ebay. Oddly, my cories use it more than my pleco, but she is a bit less shy than most of the plecos i've ever had, but she has it as an option nonetheless. Yo cant see it in my tank without really looking for it because its tucked at the back behind another ornament and plant.

You definitely need some hiding places! He will be much happier. In my experience, the more hiding places I put in, the more confident me plec seems to be... He is always at the front of the tank now :good:

A nice wood log or a wood piece that he can get under. Make sure he has REAL wood as it is an integral part of a plecos diet.
