one of my plecos looks like he has a scrape on his back. it doesn't look red or fungus like. sometimes when they are chasing each other around or if they get startled they move quickly for cover and I think he may be scraping himself. I have those fake plastic snap together rocks that can be made into a cave. Has anone ever seen this? Should I put some aqua sealant on the harder edges?

My pleco. scraches himself up all the time, it is harmless, like we would when we get scratched my accident. But the most dangerous thing is it might get infected or it might be from a disease. It would be a good idea to take out sharp edges and use the clip on rocks.

If all the sharp edges are gone, but your pleco. is still showing scratches, check out his tank mates. Even the most peaceful looking fish can be a "meanine" ;)

Good luck!!!

Its the clip on rocks that have some sharper edges. my plecos love them and live in them. do you think sealant would be good enough to smooth out the harder edges?

You could use sealant, or file the sharp parts. Try some melafix in the water to help him to heal - worked wonders on my pleco after he spent the night with a worm feeding cone stuck on his head. Goofy fish...
