Hello I have been worried that I will loose some baby fish I found out or I thought my platy was pregnant about 4 weeks ago and about a week or so she's gotten fatter I don't know if I should put her in a breeding box or just keep her in the main tank together with my other fishes I do have Danios rose barbs and a Chinese algae eater got 1 male platy and 3 females I think another one similar to the one I think is heavily pregnant is also pregnant will post some pictures if anyone could help me I would appreciate it.
Thank you
First 2 pictures with a her in a circle are from the 9th January when I started seeing differences on her size , other pictures are from today 24th January

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

She is definitely close, probably within the next week, maybe sooner.

Do not put her in a breeding box. Being chased, caught and put in a tiny enclosure will stress her out and she can go into premature labour. Just leave her in the main tank and have lots of plants for her and the babies to hide in. Then use a small plastic container to scoop the babies up and put them in a breeding net.

Platies breed regularly so even if the other fish eat some of the young, she will probably give birth to another batch in a month or so. She can have up to 100+ babies per batch.

Thank you so much! I will keep you guys updated and how it went I'm really excited as it will be my first batch from my fishes since I have them in August quite nervous and not sure if I'm doing it right or wrong, if that does make sense I'm a newbie but very keen to keep all my fishes healthy and happy it's always good to have some reassurance 🙂 before going to bed I'm checking them out and when I wake up same not just checking on my pregnant platy but also count them all making sure they are all there 😂

Totally agree with other guys leave in tank put baby box close to side of tank do you have a tank magnet cleaner position it between glass and box small gap some fry might hide there see my picture

A little update about my platies looks like I had two pregnant ones the older and the one in question was the one who had a bigger gravid spot and getting a box shape haven't gave birth yet I think as today when I looked in the morning she had a bigger box shaping around her belly so as I was going to do a bigger water change I moved her with as little stressful for her and moved into another thank with plenty of plants and caves for hiding and she settled very well I've done my water change on my main tank a left the other platy in the main tank after all set tidy and clean I started to find little frys in my main tank which couldn't be from the one I thought she's was about to give birth very soon it looks like it was from the other one so I've catched 4 so far the both pregnants platies are now in my little tank hopping to get more frys from one or another I'm well excited and happy to find 4 so far without being eaten by all other fishes in the tank

Guys help me do they still look pregnant and are they actually both pregnant? I've moved both into another tank the one who I thought and showed you guys here at first asking advice how long could she be pregnant yesterday 28-01-2022 I moved her into a separate fish tank and I carry on cleaning my main tank after cleaning ive switched the lights of and at night found 4 frys and I took them into the breeding box and moved the platy I thought she wasn't pregnant or anywhere near to have babies but it could only been her dropping the frys so I didn't switched the lights and I've moved her with the other pregnant but have seen any Fry's on that tank got a few floating plants and caves both still very pregnant I think can you please help me ?

Thank you all in advance 🙂

Stop moving her, you stress them out when you move them and they can give birth prematurely to dead babies. Just leave the females in a well planted tank and they will give birth when they are ready to give birth

I only moved her once and the main reason I moved was I was going to clean my fish tank and do a bigger cleaning as it was time for it I didn't stressed them out didn't chase them or any thing I just but a little box and let them get it there and went straight to the other tank they never seemed stressed, it's been more than 24 hours they have been in they both seems happy,
Thank you for your time and help

You don't move the fish out when you clean their tank. Just drain out some of the water and fill the tank back up. If you need to clean the gravel, get a basic model gravel cleaner like the one in the following link and use that to clean the gunk out of the gravel.
