The title pretty much speaks for itself...

I am very bored of my 2 gal being empty and want to set it up as a nice little snailarium. I know it's a small tank and I plan on getting one snail (apple snail most likely) but will it be lonely on it's own?

I don't think snails are smart enough to get lonely :p

Ah well, you never know... maybe this one will be different.

I will set up the tank with some nice live plants for him/her/it to eat and it can have a feast. The snailarium will also double as a fry tank and will be used to kick start cycles for larger tanks.

Just realised that with 2 snails I would be rather overstocked and they would have snail erm... fry? :p So one lucky snail will have the tank all to .. itself.

Watch this space.

I was gonna say get you a ghost shrimp to go with it as a little tankmate but if you're gonna put fry in there maybe that's not such a good idea?

You could put some trumpets and a giant ramshorn snail in there too, feed them algae wafers.

Hi,

If you get an apple snail get one of the smaller brigs as a canna will out grow the tank www.applesnail.net has info on how to id. Apple snails need a male and female to breed but females can store sperm. They lay a cluster of eggs above the water line so you can remove the eggs if you don't want them to hatch. I think they are quite social, mine seem to hang out together anyway. If you want a snail expolosion get the ramshorns they will breed like crazy.

Emma :D
