Hi everyone,
My Bumblebee Gobies are displaying breeding behavior, and have been for some time. I have never seen any evidence of fish eggs or fry. Now it's entirely possible that the bees are only 'practicing' their breeding behaviors and not actually laying any eggs, but an aquarist I know suggested that the snails in the tank with them may be eating their eggs! I have never heard of, nor even read of this happening, but I gotta wonder if that could be the reason for no babies. These fish have been displaying breeding behaviors for a couple of months now, on and off.
The tank is 26 gallons, contains 13 Bumblebees, (4 male and 9 female) 6 Nerite Snails, and and an uncountable number of Malasian Trumpet Snails. SG varies between 1.003 and 1.005. Each bee has a shell to hide in, and the tank is lightly planted.
Have any of you ever heard of snails eating fish eggs? The snails are frequently going into the bee's shells. I've even had to pull the odd Nerite out of a shell as it was trapping a fish inside!
I'd really appreciate a second opinion here!
Thanks,
Stacey
