About two weeks ago, after 6 months of waiting my female black molly finally got pregnnant and had 12 little babies! I was able to move her into her own tank before she had them in with my community fish and then got her out again back with her fishy friends. Unfortunatly however these wee babes have come at a very bad time. In a week I will be going back home (I am a student) to do clinical placement for my vet nursing course. I will be away for two weeks, and my little babes will not be big enough to join the big fish before I leave. I have two automatic feeders that I set up for my community and goldfish (believe it or not I did have eveything planned), however because these guys are in a third tank I wont be able to feed them!
I dont like fish feeding blocks, they seem to foul up the water alot so I dont want to give them one when I wont be back to do tank maintanence for two weeks. And I cant give them an auto feeder, as there is not enough time to find one (can only buy online because they are way to exspensive from LFS) and also the ones I have feed too much for little baby fish.
Which has left me with one option, to take them home with me.Im worried about the stress this will put on these little guys, as it is a hour journey over hills, and of course the fact that im uprooting them at such a young age. However this seems to be my only viable option.
I have a polystyrene box that I can pack with newspaper so they dont roll around, and so the water stays warm. The tank is small enough to take back (originaly it was an isolation tank) and I have a water container I can take their original water back in.
What do you guys think? Im at a loss of what else to do, and I dont have anyone to feed them, i live in a student hostel and dont trust anyone to do it.
Just like human babies they have come unplanned and unexpected! XD However Id really like them to survive, half of them are dalmations and there is even a pure white just like the dad. Its extremely hard to find dalmations in the area im in. And I do not yet have any dalmations in my tank.
Any help is appreciated!
