I've been watching my 'female' curviceps for awhile now that I've moved her and the male upstairs. She is at least 6cm long hence why I'm relatively certain that she is a she. And I'm also certain that my male is a male. Thing is, she looks ALOT different to him. I've checked pictures online and such and I guess she does look like females on there... give or take. But at the same time I've seen picturs of females that are coloured up the same as my male.

I'm guessing perhaps she just isn't in breeding colours? But at the same time I've started wondering if there was any chance she may be a dorsigera cross? I'll upload pics later, but I'm mainly asking if crosses actually exist. Not chinese whisper style. As in have you ever seen first hand a thread (or real life person lol) that claims to have bred the two together...

Better pics to come, she does actually have a big dark 'spot' on her dorsal fin by the way. The camera flash seems to not show it though. She does have the trailing white stripe of a curviceps. Sometimes gets slight barring though on her rear half which is apparently a dorsigera trait.

Here they are in the tank downstairs (take 2 days ago). Male on left, female on right. You can see her black dorsal spot really clearly here.

slightly off-topic but did you get these recently? I picked up a 'wild caught' one two days ago. Had never seen them before so was wondering if there has been a sudden influx of them over the last couple of months.

There were about 8 at the LFS, but I couldn't spot one with the dorsal marking so opted on getting a single male.

I got them both in november time. But the male was from trimar aquatics in cornwall (I happened to be in the area), and the female was from my local MA. I don't think there has been an 'influx' or anything... might've been. But I thought they were quite a regular in the trade. Apparently less regular in america though where dorsigera are regularly traded under curviceps.

I mean at the time I didn't think twice about whether she was anything other than a curviceps... she's got the white stripe at the end or her dorsal, she was in a tank full of other curviceps... but just comparing her too my male...
I'm hoping this is just a particularly drab female who isn't in spawning colours. lol. Good job she can't read!
