okay I just thought that this was too cute today I was sitting in my lazy boy today watching my JD and he was sitting in his little hole that he dug in the sand that I have been putting in the tank and he just started yawning. I was just wondering if it is something that fish do all the time I have never seen him do it before, although I am sure that he is aware that he is going to be getting a new friend soon.

Mine occasionally yawn. But I don't know if there's any significance of these yawning relating to their mood, or water conditions may be? -_- I checked on my book but it said they couldn't figure out the reason why...

some of my betta yawn , usually after waiting for a treat then they realize they're not getting anything so they'll give up and yawn out of boredom

I love it when my cichlids yawn, who knew they had such big mouths

my boys yawn too...I've always wondered (in my newbie ignorance) if it has anything to do with them passing more water through their gills (even though they're labryinth fish)? Or are they actually really yawning.

All fish "yawn" from time to time, it is often to dislodge something that has stuck in their gills, so actually more like a cough. As long as they only do it from time to time - no worries, if they are doing it all the time, or suddenly start doing it, then I'd suggest further investigation.

Poor water quality, (first thing), particles in the water, (possible), gill parasites, (unlikely), etc......

thanks guys, as this is the first time that I have ever seen him do it I really don't think that there is anything wrong with him. but like the other I just tought that it was too cute and was wondering why they do it.
