Divider Broke!

While doing water changes on my 5 gallon divided tank, I broke the notebook spine on one side.... I went ahead and rigged it up so that the gravel and plants were holding it up, and I made it so the small space in the side wan't visible..... This was about an hour ago..... I then looked over and didn't see Spike on his side, walked over to the tank, and there he was, chilling out in the other side with Charlie, they were just kinda swimming together and then just floated beside each other. No torn fins, not even any flaring...... They are both pet store vt's, and have been with me over a year, so they are at least a couple years old.... maybe that's why they got along so well...... It just makes me think..... I truly believe that some boys can be kept together in harmony...... I wanted so bad to take pics, but I left my camera at home...

Maybe if they are use to eachother enough (Could they see eachother for a few years?), then they could coexsite..

Yes I seperated them immediately...... well as soon as I saw that he had gotten through...... They have been in that divided tank together for about a year..... They are both very mellow, not skittish at all, they will occasionally flare at one another, but they often just look at each other through the divider and then go on their way...

I know this is off topic, but since it's my thread, I said I'm allowed to hijack it, but anyways I'm trying to make buddy icons for aol, and I can't figure out how to get them to the right size..... if anyone knows how, please IM me. it's driving me nuts!! Thanks

The things you guys are saying is the exact reason they were taken out immediately. I'm not stupid, and would never put my fish in harms way on purpose, but I do believe that in the future boys will be able to live together without harming one another..... I just won't be the one to try it.

Eh. Making assumptions like that about a species that has been displaying agression between males for thousands of years is very dangerous, and could mislead less experienced members of the board to try it themselves and be the first ones to bring peace to betta-land. Not really a very good thing to be mentioning. I'm not trying to rag on you; it WOULD be awesome, and I'm sure through years and years of selecting for passive temperaments it maybe has a small chance of happening. It just seems like a dangerous statement for people who come reading here and don't know bettas well enough to know they shouldn't try it.
Oh well. I'm glad your boys did not harm one another; very luck on your part. I'm afriad to use dividers after hearing of the many cases of them breaking or being jumped over/swam under on this board.

That's why I said "In the Future" If someone new comes on this board and all they read is this one thread, I'm sure they are either not serious enough abut bettas to get one, or will have bigger problems than a divider breaking. I don't think my posts are misleading at all......... I mean I said I took them out immediately b/c I was aware that they could turn on each other at any minute..... I don't think we need to make every topic beginner friendly. I mean geez...... if someone puts two boys together, it's not because they think it will be ok, it's b/c they are being asses........ Most people that put them together are informed about the risks and still do it.... so I do not believe that my posts will make a beginner think it is ok...... I'm sure there are people in the world who do keep boys together peacefully, and I don't see anything wrong with them sharing it with anyone.... including an online forum....... In my case ntohing happened over an hour period of time, and I don't see the problem in talking about it on here.......
