Are discus fish great with community tanks?

Short answer? No. They are very high maintenance and need specialised setups.

Right you are Even if the tank is very large you could not really have a 'community' as Discus tend to dominate tanks, needing to be in groups and all.

Okay im thinking of getting a masterpiece fish for my next tank and it should be maximum 15cm as i may just get small 4cm fish like guppies and neons and glowlights

Not to nit-pick or anything but do you mean centerpiece? As for recommendations on centerpiece fish, most dwarf cichlids would fit in very nicely with a shoal of neon, glowlights or rummynose tetras. You could try gouramis, but they tend to be a bit aggressive sometimes, but one of the calmer ones like Pearl Gourami would do quite nicely. You could try Keyhole cichlids, if you got a slightly bigger species of tetra, I assume I've never kept Keyholes. Or you could try a firemouth as long as the other fish could hold their own.

Oh yeah, by the way we can't really advise you fully until you tell us the size of the new tank.
