You guess tell me what is the ideal setup for breeding discus to sell to lfs or other fish enthusiasts and if there is a decent market in the business?

Im considering doing this and getting a new tank ect
Tips hints facts ideas ?

Any input is appreciated.

I hate to suggest this, but go to any of the more popular discus sites and you can read/see about what is involved. It is not easy nor cheap to do.

LFS get the worst quality discus for the most part. Breeders tend to sell directly to hobbyists and their culls may make it into the average lfs and most pet stores.

Just to give you an idea of what some of the better discus breeders in the states do:

Here is a typical hobby breeder classified page from SimplyDiscus Hobbyist Breeders' Fry for Sale

Good luck with it if you decide to proceed.

They ae extremely difficult to breed, i can tell you this because i am currently breeding discus. I have spent over 750$ on my breeding efforts already. And i havent even had fry live to sellable size yet. Also check out devoted to discus journal on breeding discus. I also have a journal that you could check out.

I find discus are easy to breed they will spawn every few weeks in the right conditions. but it's very very hard to grow out fry. Raising fry is the challenge.

It is not cheap you will not make a profit unless you have free water, no other job and a huge facility with many quality pairs. You might make enough to break even and have a little left over for fish food.

It makes more sense to become an importer now a days. Then sell quality fish online.
