Hi peeps.

I got up this morning and noticed that my zebra danio behaviour was different from normal. I know that they are very active fish always chasing each other about the tank. But this morning i saw they had singled one out and a few of them were quite aggressive towards it. chasing it in groups of 2 or 3. I have looked up about sexing them and from what i can see the one being chased is female and the others are male but not sure. the chasers are slimmer and quite bright and the chasee is fatter and whiter. if its just a "mating dance" then i have nothing to worry about but just want to make sure!

thanks

how many do you have?
how long have you had them?
mine were doing the same but since i upped the numbers they have been fine.

got 6 zebra danios, they have been in the tank about 2 mnths. Its a 90lt tank so i know there is no problem with space. they share it with 2 platies and a clown pleco

Sounds like they are spawning. The males who will be slimmer and have a yellow stripe will chase the females who are fatter and have creamy coloured stripes. She will scatter the eggs as the males fertilize them. Others will join in the chase gobbling up the eggs! You wont see any evidence of them as the eggs are so tiny and will fall into the substrate. Fry will hatch but are unlikely to survive. If you look closely in around 36 to 48 hours you will see them clinging on the side of the glass - they look like minute transparent hairs!

they probably just reached breeding age. i had one male and 5 females. dont think its anything to wory about but keep an eye on them.
hope this helps

I feel awful in a way cause tomorrow is the day i clean the tank and do a water change so if they are spawning then their eggs go too... :( I love my fish. lol
