My fishless cycling attempt in NOT giong well.

About 6 weeks ago in immese wisdom, -_- I put 30ml of 9% ammonia in to my 58 litre tank. Just a liiiitttllee bit too much. Whoops.

I have had nitrites and nitrates for a while, I have also done a 50% AND a 75% water change, and my ammonia is still at about 6ppm and not shifting (although it does seem to be on teh scale now).

Is it taking so long as the water changes have made it start over? Is there anything I can do?
Arg. I want a fish!

Many people might go against the advice I give you here, but you just might want to try a fishful cycle. Just throw in some feeder fish, or tiger barbs, and see what happens. I've always done this and it works. But that just may be me.

i would do another water change, and keep waiting. If possible, get some bacteria from an established tank, that should help speed things up. You said that it now seems to be decreasing, and down to 6. The initial concentration of ammonia may have been too much for the bacteria to grow in.

As for the above advice, if you decide to try to cycle with fish, please do a 100% water change before adding your fish. Also, I would not recomend tiger barbs or feeder fish. Tiger barbs are sensitive to poor water quality, and feeder fish are often ridden with disease, which you do not want to introduce into your tank. If you are determined to do cycle with fish, please look into hardy fish.

can you get hold of a product called ammovec made by Sera(tm) products?
if so then add that as directed on the bottle.

cant you get hold of a bactiria boost tablet?
i used one to boost the bactria, the one i use you can add the fish 24h later and they arnt dead yet :)

but they also quickly remove exsess nitrates etc too

Mmm, not going to go with fish and cycling, I think that the cycling process contributed a lot to the ich which killed my first attempt.
Can you get the bacteria boost tablets in teh UK (from say pets at home which unfortunately is my nearest pet shop?)

(from say pets at home which unfortunately is my nearest pet shop?)

yes i have a problem with pets at home too -.-
but i did get my tablet thingys there runs and gets...
mine are 'Bactozym' by TetraAqua (aqua/green box 3" by 2")

Tetra Bactozym has a unique two-way action to remove harmful waste from your aquarium and speed up the development of "benefical" filter bacteria on your filter all in an easy-to-handle and dose capsule.

# TetraAqua Bactozym stimulates the decomposition of uneaten fish food using naturally occuring enzymes. this greatly reduces water population and helps keep your aquarium crystal clear.

# TetraAqua Bactozym provides ideal conditions for the growth and development of benefical filter bacteria which naturally break down pollutants and keep your tank healthy. This increased development rate of beneficial bacteria enables your filter to work more efficently and in a shorter time.

using TetraAqua Bactozym as instructed will reduce "new tank syndrom" enabling the first ffew fish to be added to the aquarium after only 24hours.

thats what it does..
